10 - SPIRITUALITY & RELIGION
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Pascal's wager; 4 possibilities & possible social effects:
- faith in eternal life & yes, it exists
- faith in eternal life & no afterlife
- no faith in eternal life & yes, it exists
- no faith in eternal life & no afterlife
Science's primary failure due to Naive Realism (as old as Descartes)
Recent science about the mind and consciousness suggest that the mind might be a
virtual reality construct
If the mind is virtual reality, then virtual reality typically used for training. Could it be
existing within a virtual training system, a system created by a society of advanced beings to
educate their offspring? Might we be their offspring? Could such beings be of seemingly "pure energy"
like the "organians" of the Star Trek episode, Errand of Mercy? For lack of a better word, might
we have named these energy beings "angels"?
Was the "burning bush" actually burning? Or was it an electrical system with flashing lights?
Koko, the gorilla, called watermelon a "fruit drink"; the Lakota called a horse "shunka wakan"
(mystery dog); what would the ancients call a device with lights (some, perhaps, "flickering" on & off)?
Other possibilities: the dream (as in the Matrix movie), time being multi-dimensional, the
Edgar Cayce scenario, others
